Bénin | Market research, modelling, structuring and deployment of financial product for the diaspora

The DIASDEV – CDC savings products project aims to enable beneficiary African CDCs to facilitate the mobilisation of savings from their diaspora through tailored products and services in order to increase their resource base for the development of projects with economic and social impact.

In order to support CDD Benin in creating a product dedicated to the diaspora, Red Mangrove conducted a study to:

  • Quantify the target market in each of the priority countries
  • Characterise the socio-economic profiles that can be mobilised
  • Understand behaviours and levers of engagement

The study included :

  • A literature review that prioritised three countries representing the three main emigration destinations for Beninese nationals (Nigeria, Africa outside Nigeria, and OECD countries).
  • Semi-structured interviews with representatives of the diaspora and consular authorities in each target country.
  • A quantitative study of 211 respondents in Côte d’Ivoire, 225 in Nigeria, and 350 respondents in France. This study was previously approved by INSTaD visa no. 38/2025/MEF/INSTAD/DCSFM.
  • This data was analysed to produce product recommendations, which were tested in panels with members of the diaspora in each country.
