Mali | Study on the profile and dynamics of migrants

This study analysed the profiles, motivations, vulnerabilities and migration pathways of migrants from Mali, focusing on the factors triggering migration and route choices, with particular attention to the Kayes region. The aim was to qualitatively map the new western migration routes linking Mali to the European Union via Senegal and Mauritania, whilst identifying:

  • The profiles of migrants and forcibly displaced persons,
  • The structural causes of migration in the Kayes region,
  • The institutional mechanisms governing migration, particularly laws protecting migrants and displaced persons.

The study combined a comprehensive understanding of migration issues with a critical analysis of the existing legal and political framework. It concluded with the drafting of an action plan aimed at addressing the root causes of migration in Mali, proposing concrete avenues for targeted interventions.
